Creative Movement Young children learn to dance through exploration of movement & rhythm. The class involves use of props, imaginative dance, locomotor skills, fun dances, body awareness and self-expression. Must be potty-trained. Must be able to follow basic directions and separate from mom/dad at the door.
Pre-Ballet This level places emphasis on basic of ballet with age-appropriate technique. The class involves use of props, imaginative dance, locomotor skills.
Beginning Ballet Beginners need to learn proper technique, alignment, flexibility, and vocabulary of dance. Skills include across the floor movements, centre, and basic turns and combinations. BALLET I — Continuation of fundamentals and technique development and terminology. Succeeding levels of classes will build on mastery of skills. (1-2 years experience) BALLET II/III — Ballet experience is required. Students must demonstrate preparedness, focus, and commitment and must take a mininum of 2 classes/week. Three times a week is strongly recommended especially if Pointe is the desired outcome. Placement is level II or III will be determined by the instructor.
Beginning Pointe & Pointe Pointe candidates will be evaluated by instructor; Must demonstrate body and ankle strength and control. Pointe students must have permission of instructor for class participation.
Beginning Jazz Beginners need to learn proper technique, alignment, flexibility, and vocabulary of dance. Skills include across the floor movements, centre, and basic turns and combinations. Jazz = Warm-ups, isolations, combinations, progressions. JAZZ I — Continuation of fundamentals and technique development and terminology. Succeeding levels of classes will build on mastery of skills. (1-2 years experience) Jazz II, III — For students with dance experience. Students should demonstrate skill achievement and have good understanding of dance vocabulary. This level does not correspond with the number of years of dance, but to mastery of skills. Placement in levels may be determined by instructor evaluation/discretion.
Lyrical Combines ballet, jazz, and modern styles with emphasis on interpretive/dramatic performance. Requirement: Ballet or jazz enrollment.
Beginning Tap Beginners need to learn proper technique, alignment, flexibility, and vocabulary of dance. Skills include across the floor movements, centre, and basic turns and combinations. Tap = Rhythm, clarity, speed, and basic steps. TAP I — Continuation of fundamentals and technique development and terminology. Succeeding levels of classes will build on mastery of skills. (1-2 years experience) TAP II, III — For students with dance experience. Students should demonstrate skill achievement and have good understanding of dance vocabulary. This level does not correspond with the number of years of dance, but to mastery of skills. Placement in levels may be determined by instructor evaluation/discretion.
Hip Hop A contemporary style of movement that combines street dance, urban funk, pop & lock, with an emphasis on rhythm and beat. Think MTV/VH1 music videos and you get the idea! Experience or participation in ballet/jazz is helpful but not required.
Jazz Pom A Jazz dance style with leaps, kicks, precision drills, motions, and pom poms. Enrollment in jazz or ballet is recommended for techniques.
Beginning Irish For students new to Irish dancing. Learn basics of soft shoe/hardshoe reels and jigs; tap shoes are required for hardshoe. Ballet/Jazz shoes are acceptable for summer sessions (soft shoe Irish). IRISH II/III — For returning and experienced students. Students will review the basics as well as learn more challenging steps. Focus will be on technique and competition skills and readiness. HARDSHOE — Irish hard shoe technique. Tap shoes are required. COMPETITION PREP — Irish Hard/Soft shoe experience is required. Student must be enrolled in additional Irish class.
Turns, Tricks & Technique Skill driven for students to learn challenging turns, leaps, jumps, strengthening, and stretching activities. Must be enrolled in ballet or jazz. Goal is to improve overall dance performance & skill. Motivated dance students only.! (11 years or older.)
Choreography Choreography is challenging. Dancers will explore elements of choreography including musicality, phrasing, direction, spatial awareness. Dancers will present their individual choreographed pieces at the end of the sessions. Each week builds upon previous weeks' lesson. Previous dance experience is required.
